2023 saw Rackman Australia team up with West Australian-based Star Retail Group for the first time.
Our mission was to support the company to relocate to a contemporary warehouse and ensure the installation was completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Stephen Overing, General Manager Commercial at Red Dot Stores, says Rackman Australia was selected after a tender process involving four other companies.
“We chose Rackman Australia primarily because of its tender quote and on-time guarantee in regards to our installation deadline,” he explains.
“We’d also had recommendations from a trusted source and trade and supplier feedback, and we liked that they were local and easy to deal with.”
The Client
Star Retail Group is the driving force behind iconic West Australian brands Red Dot Stores, Thingz and Living Emporium.
It’s proudly West Australian-owned and launched its first store, Thingz, in 1979 at Carousel shopping centre.
The Group, which has more than 75 retail outlets across WA, needed an ordered transition to its new warehouse, with the aim to maximise operational efficiency.
Star Retail Group trusted in Rackman’s honest communication and reviewed some of our previous worksites and jobs, finding them to be completed to a high standard.

The Brief
Star Retail Group’s daunting task was moving from its warehouse to a new warehouse with a fresh flow plan in the timeframe.
The new site required bespoke pick bays to better keep stock in designated sections and double deep storage to maximise space.
The project involved more than 6,000 pallets and required the maintenance of usual picking, packing, and despatching operations in order to deliver stock to more than 45 stores to drive sales.
The Group required an experienced and trustworthy partner to help manage the job and it found that in Rackman Australia.
The Process
Rackman Australia suggested some important enhancements to the new warehouse design Star Retail Group had completed prior to our engagement.
A smooth exit from the company’s old warehouse – and a rapid transition to the new warehouse – was made possible thanks to a gradual handover process, meaning the earliest installed racks could be filled while we advanced the construction process across the warehouse floor.
Rackman Australia was also engaged to outsource the removal of old fixtures, further supporting a quick exit from the existing site.
The Result
Star Retail Group describes the service provided by Rackman Australia as “very good, smooth, easy and on-time.”
The collaboration, it says, has saved money through a quick exit from the existing warehouse into the new site. The latest warehouse has superior flow and improved productivity due to the design, racking heights and layout.
“Using partners such as Rackman who can work with us to achieve the best outcome and minimal down time to deliveries to stores has allowed us to relocate from the old site to new site, and we are now operating in a modern, efficient warehouse operation,” says Stephen.
“We now operate on a reduced management structure as we are operating more efficiently. This was our design and reason for moving locations.”
The Group says the standout products from Rackman Australia include pallet racking and double deep runners that allow additional storage and maximise cost efficiency, as well as bespoke pick bay cages that work well and are fit for purpose.
